Unbelievably, my daughter won two tickets to Capital Radio’s Summer Time Ball on the radio on Friday.
She had been desperate to go. The tickets are now selling for over £150 each on Ebay. She has texted in the password on numerous occasions. As it happened on Friday, she used my phone to text in the password because we were in the car. When a call arrived half an hour later I was told I was on the short list to speak to the DJ. However, because my brain is so rubbish these days I had already forgotten the password – also, I didn’t really want to be on the radio sounding like an over-excited teenager. So I gave the phone to her. She was put on line 12. Her line got chosen, she gave her details and revealed the password whilst jumping up and down on her bed. When she was told she had won and was going to the ball I thought she was going to break the bed – or her neck on the ceiling. She jumped up and down so much she inadvertently managed to hang up the phone and cut them off. She was positively shaking with fear at the thought that she had now missed out on her opportunity of a lifetime to see Justin Bieber et al.
Thankfully they called back. At the same time her brother came charging in the front door jumping up and down with her because he’d heard her on the radio as he was driving his car. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much overt delight in my life.
Just lovely for her. She suddenly has so many friends she doesn’t know what to do.
