I think my 7 year old is going to go far. His tooth fell out whilst he was at his father’s house. He obviously understands that the old TF only comes to the house that receives the child maintenance, so he very proudly handed it to me on the doorstep as he returned, wrapped in a bit of tissue. “Hi, here’s my tooth and why’s your face all blobby?” (don’t know why I bother with expensive facials, they never work). For some reason he doesn’t want to “sell it” to the tooth fairy. “Why can’t I get £2.00 AND keep my tooth? I mean what does she want it for anyway?”. That approach doesn’t work. I tell him that’s just how it is…

5 minutes later:

“Well, anyway, I don’t believe in the tooth fairy – she doesn’t exist”.
“Who told you that?” I ask him.
“You did”.
“Oh”.
“So, as I know the tooth fairy doesn’t exist, can I keep the tooth AND have £2.00? PLEEEESE?

Still not working…..

5 minutes later:

“Please, mum. It’s really important to me that I keep this tooth. It’s one of my vampire teeth and I’ll really miss it. In fact, I promise I’ll play with it every day… OOORRRR (when I wasn’t looking at all convinced that teeth can keep you occupied for any length of time, as he sort of waved it about in manner of paper aeroplane) I’ll keep it in a box and polish it every day).

Still not convinced, but wearing me down….

5 minutes later:

“I’ve written a letter to the tooth fairy. I think she’ll see my point of view.

In case you can’t read it, it says:

To the tooth fairy pleze can I have my tooth and £2

ps please find below a sketch of the tooth instead.

Well, I think that’s pretty enterprising of him – does anyone know if the TF is happy with a sketch?

Too cute! I think the TF will be greatly appreciative of a sketch.

As I’m sure it’s the best gift or um likeness she’ll ever get next to the “real” thing.
