I checked out “Dooce’s” blog the other day. Written by Heather Armstrong, a 30 something, American, mother of one. She is the mother of all bloggers. She has one of the top 50 blogs in the world but recently she’s received a little bit of bad press regarding the possible over-exposure of her life. I was interested to see what her response was likely to be – she certainly had answers to all the criticism:

“We have declared that our voices matter and we are proud that we were brave enough to do this. We are an army of educated mothers who have finally stood up and said pay attention. This is important work, this is hard, frustrating work and we are not going to sit around on our hands waiting for permission to do so”.

Blimey, I thought to myself in manner of pathetic English person reading American person’s blog. Strong stuff. I hadn’t realised that as a “mother who blogs” I am suddenly part of an army (let alone an intelligent one). Bloody hell. When did I sign up? Was I drunk at the time? Did I pass the medical? Then I remembered that, phew, there was no medical because anyone can get in…there is no criteria, other than the urge to talk bollocks on a regular basis to absolutely no-one in particular.

Anyway, as I contemplated her words and left a pathetic “you go girl” sort of message of support I noted that it would be unlikely that she notice my comment as I was something like the 875th person to comment on that particular post. What a completely bizarre concept. Having that many people leave you a message. I’d never cope! I spend all day mulling over the two comments I have received and what exactly they meant by it, imagine having to consider 1,000 of them. Still, no chance of that happening, so I won’t worry too much about how I’d cope!

Well let me leave a message on yours, as a fellow soldier who recently went awol but has now returned, and I hope you’ll read it. Unless there are 874 queued up in front of me waiting to be published, that it. And YOU go girl!!!
    GBS x
p.s. I’m still trying to decide how much of my life I should reveal on my blog …

i become foolishly delighted with comments! possibly because i am now a hopeless blog addict, or sitting on planet ego, or just jolly grateful that someone read something i writ! some comments are even useful and helpful, which is brilliant.

and i think your words are spot on.

She is an amazing blogger and pretty much tells you how it is; where it is and how things will happen. She gets a ton of hate comments and whatnot – however, I haven’t checked her out in quite awhile.

I usually only “stalk” or um lurk her blog.

But I hear you on the comments – I get like one or two and that’s about all I can handle.

I’m certainly not as interesting as I like to think I am.
