The UK Blog Awards were held last night at the Park Plaza, Westminster Bridge in London for nearly 600 people. What a great event to be involved with – I personally just love the diversity between all the bloggers from 18 different niche categories – so interesting to see a crowd like this merge together with one key thing in common. Mainly that most of us don’t get out that much from behind a computer screen, sitting tapping away for hours on end in our dressing gowns and slippers, so it’s just lovely to get out and meet the faces from behind the screens.
My fellow Highly Commended blogger, Laura Saudargaite was sadly not able to be with us. She had been writing a blog called “Girl On Top” all about her journey with cancer, written with honesty, humour and empathy – really brilliant. So it was devastating to be told that she had died last week. So, so sad and my heart goes out to her family and friends.
I took some dreadful photos of the evening and forgot to get a photo with me holding my award! But here are a few to give you a flavour – if you’re a blogger then you should definitely enter next year.
All the judges and winners on stage at the end:-
Here I am with a few of the judges and the WWF team – who are wearing eco clothes provided by Livia Firth for Marks and Spencer:-
Here I am with Duncan, the WWF blogger – the only photo of me from the night!
On arrival home, my son texted me from Barcelona, “Did you win?” he asked me. “No” I told him, “but I got Highly Commended in the Headline Category!!”
“Gutted” was his reply.
Honestly, what has a mother got to do these days to impress her children?
