“Watch carefully the magic that occurs when you give a person just enough comfort to be themselves”
Atticus
This quote, my fellow parents might make you feel a little better as we give our children their final hug and send them off into the big wide world. It is the weekend when many of our children head to university. My daughter went yesterday, the car was full to the brim, but so was her tangible sense of hope and excitement for what this year might hold.
Who will they meet? What will they do? How will this experience change the course of their life? Will they remember to wash? Eat? Not drink too much? They are one step closer to meeting their future self. It is just so exciting to be where they are. I just had no idea how hard it is to be the parent who has to let them go to be introduced to all that the world has to offer and to absorb it all – with passion and freedom.
It’s a little disappointing that we send them off looking healthy and I predict that within two weeks of Fresher madness they will be tired and a little bit ill.
Just make sure you remind them to take vitamin pills and/or have the occasional night off the booze!
I feel your pain….

My new college boy just texted to tell me his room mate has the same clothes technique as him – it all goes on the floor! Sigh.
