Let me tell you – there is nothing worse than having a beautiful 18 year old daughter living with you, who is also single. Imagine how much WAY MORE attention she is going to be getting on Valentine’s Day compared to me. A few years ago I would have had to dig myself out of my front door with all the cards she had been sent but now they don’t seem to send them anymore – not even e-cards. Maybe I need to invent an app to send anonymously to admirers.
I know it’s wrong to compare myself to my 18 year old daughter – trust me I couldn’t be more excited for her with all that she has ahead of her….but what I have to keep checking myself about is how depressing I find Valentine’s Day. How pointless and ridiculous. How materialistic. How silly.
So what should I do about that then? I’m thinking about running a competition. Maybe I’ll offer a prize for the best reason why we should still believe in romance. My daughter has suggested the prize can be one of our cats (ha ha). Will give it a think.
Maybe you could come up with a little poem? Something like:-
Roses are Red,
Violets are Blue
I’ve got Alzheimer’s
Cheese On Toast
