I had to teach my first class this morning after the long summer break. It’s never easy getting back into it after a significant period of time, but it was even worse this morning now that I seem to have lost all sense of balance.
How can I teach a class all about posture and balance and feeling centred and grounded when I haven’t got any balance? It’s ridiculous and as predicted I was comically bad. I couldn’t actually participate in the exercises I was teaching, as I felt dizzy every time I lay down or did a spinal roll and had to hold on to the wall, so I had to talk them through everything instead. I think I got away with it though, because it was only a small class of women who knew what to do already, but it better go soon or I’m going to be in real trouble.
Nobody had done any stretches through the summer so they were all happy to do an easy gentle class. One of the women said she had been working a little through the summer – practicing keeping her feet parallel by reminding herself whilst sitting in the garden smoking a cigarette to keep her knees over her feet and feet nice and straight…..
Brilliant.
