I have had a strange weekend. Unusually quiet. Builder Bloke had his children this weekend and I didn’t have mine. So I took the opportunity to have a quiet time. Getting. Stuff. Done.
However, instead I sort of moped around feeling dizzy and ill. Nothing worse when feeling dizzy and ill than silence and a propensity for self obsession and a major tendency to be a complete hypochondriac (it’s just taken me five minutes to remember that word!). I have decided this weekend that I am suffering from serious memory loss (although Friday night shouldn’t really count) and tingly fingers and I may well be weeing more – can’t really be sure. This is as a direct result of googling every symptom known to man related to dizziness and now I am quite sure that I either have diabetes or a brain tumour.
In addition to only having months to live, I had water pouring out of my kitchen ceiling through a light socket last night. Creating a large pool on the floor. I decided that it was probably a leak in the boiler and having reached that conclusion, went out. Which was a little bit bizarre, but I was due at a friend’s house for dinner and I couldn’t see the point of staring at the leak, particularly when angling my head up like that made my dizziness even worse.
I’m glad I went out because I had a lovely evening with friends and if I had been in on my own I’d have been utterly miserable. The leak was no worse when I got back. A lovely British Gas man came to mend my boiler this morning only to have to mend my bath instead – which I don’t think is in his remit – but he very kindly did it anyway. Wrong diagnosis. Oops.
One of the friends there last night used to work at Carlton TV with David Cameron – he told a hilarious story about when David asked him to speak at a conference somewhere in Europe on Children’s TV. “Yes, David, no problem, I’m happy to do that – anyone else going to be speaking?” he asked. “Yes, we’ve got just one other speaker” said David, “Sooty”.
We had a very interesting conversation all about defining moments in our lives – my friend discussed her near death experience and the euphoric state she found herself in as she struggled to get back to reality = she described the light and the hovering above and everything that you always hear about. Quite extraordinary.
I’m still thinking about my defining moment – was it the moment my husband told me he was having an affair? Or was it the moment I decided that I wanted a divorce? Or was it the moment I became a mother? Or was it the moment my ex husband told me he was going out with Builder Bloke’s ex wife? Or was it when they got married? Or was it the moment my mother refused to buy me black patent shoes for a crucial party and ruined my life?
If you had to choose just one defining moment in your life what would it be??
