According to the GP and broadcaster Dr Phil Hammond, the government have chosen the wrong vaccine to protect against cervical cancer. When discussing the topic on 2/9/08 I made reference to both drugs and noted that the one they have opted for, Cervarix was the cheaper drug. Now, it seems that he and “most doctors he had spoken to had opted for Gardasil” as it protects against genital warts as well.
Great. My daughter has already had one of her three injections, but it’s not too late for all you other people out there with daughters of a similar age to start demanding the more effective drug – most other European countries have chosen it for their national programme.

October 25, 2008Shoot – a UK friend was just asking me about all this because her daughter was going to get it. Over here, it’s Gardasil, but every time I talk to my doctor about it, there seem to have been more developments. Such as, they now think it has a life of about 5 years, so if the girls get it at about 13 (before most of them are “active”) they have to have it again at 19 when they will presumably need it more. V Confusing.
