My 7 year old came out of school today complaining that he was exhausted. “I’ve got mouth ache from smiling so much” (school photos) and arm ache from all the hard work. Also I have to make a few calls when I get home. We’ve got the school disco coming up and I need to talk to some of the boys about which girls they’re going to ask”.

He was busy telling me yesterday that everybody in his class is in a couple – “we all have a crush on somebody, I just haven’t decided who my crush is on yet”.

Later, at home he said to me “Is that a ZIT on your face? Aren’t you too old for zits? Don’t worry mum, I still think you’re beautiful even if that IS the biggest zit I’ve ever seen – BUT, you’re not the only one – my sister has about 15 zits and my brother is just like, well, one big zit. I of course don’t have any yet, but that’s because I’m only 7 – I’m sure I will get some when I’m older”.

Sometimes with him, I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

Ooh I love zits, I used to pin my brother down on the settee and squeeze the zits on his back. Very theraputic (spelling?) If only everything were so simple. Debs x

You have to laugh AND cry. My son (aged 6) was riding along the pavement on his bike today, gobbing into the bushes. When I said “don’t spit, it’s disgusting”, he said “no, it’s COOL!” Laugh? Or cry?
