ARE WE HEADING FOR A BRITISH SPRING?

Are we heading for a British Spring? I am not referring to our woeful summer weather… I mean more like a surge of emotion that spills out onto the streets as we struggle to deal with where we all find ourselves right now, that just might cause a little bit of additional chaos. Most of us, I would predict, are feeling very, very out of sorts, thanks to the events of the last few weeks and as a result, our own little revolution might well occur. I, for one can tell that I’m a little out of sorts because I have taken to using the word C*nt quite a lot, which is unusual – mostly with reference to politicians. My head is also about to explode with the amount of information I am trying to stuff in, understand and disseminate. We have too much information at our fingertips these days and everyone has become an expert on the subject of British politics. This is not doing us any good. Such is the level of disappointment in our politicians, we have lost all faith and have had to resort to trying to sort it out ourselves.

We might all be breathing a tiny sigh of relief now that the Teresa May has been nominated, just as the markets have – but the hard work ahead on one of the most complicated political negotiations in legal history hasn’t even started yet. I received my “thanks but no thanks” email from the petition for the second referendum, just as the other four million of us did that informed me that a second referendum was simply not an option. Well, we’ll see about that – I can feel a sea change occurring and have recently talked to a lot of young people who appear to be beginning to lift their heads from their cosy duvets and get angry. So maybe we just need to Watch. This. Space. For a minute. Pro EU campaigners have set the date of July 30th for nationwide marches to pressure incoming prime minister to “pause” the activation of the Brexit-triggering Article 50. How will she deal with that when she has announced that “Brexit means Brexit?” What does that even mean?

We have all had a profound shock and everyone is reeling one way or another. The London property market has already ground to a halt – my brother was just about to sell his house and all he has had since the vote was a number of seriously reduced offers owing to the uncertainty and instability of the market. BUT, if I come across the term “buyer’s remorse” one more time I might just have to bite someone. It just all feels like such a massive step backwards. Apparently those that voted out are also far more likely to agree with the death sentence, how progressive is that?

I still can’t accept that Out means Out. Too many of us are furious with David Cameron for putting us in this position when so few of us had demanded it and even more furious with Nigel Farage for forcing him into announcing the referendum in the first place and then fucking off to enjoy the rest of his life. The same applies to most of the Out campaigners including Boris and Gove. Although one person I talked to was bizarrely worried about the Cameron’s are going to do with all that spare food in the Downing street freezer as they pack their stuff in bin bags and run far far away.

So maybe see you at the march?

According to Private Eye, the margin by which the UK voted to leave the EU was 1,269,501; the number of eligible voters who did not vote was 12,923,225. This is outrageous and it’s hardly surprising that there are very serious financial implications and profit warnings afoot.
