Busy, busy weekend. Kids weekend. So all the usual stuff and 12 friends for dinner on Saturday night. BUT I had to work all day on Sunday and so my 8 year old was looked after by his father, which meant I avoided all the rugby, football stuff (although obviously got the aftermath of dirty clothes to deal with as usual). Bloody hell. How much easier is it to go to work? I had a lovely day, training with other instructors in a studio – learning other ways to teach Pilates type exercises. I loved it and according to the British Chiropractic Association, half of the British population now suffer from backache and that number is increasing by 5% each year, therefore I’m not sure I’m going to find myself out of a job in the current climate. The main reason for the increase quite clearly lies in our ever increasingly sedentary lifestyles and computers have a lot to answer for. Our back muscles have become ridiculously weak – we all need to get our spines moving and get out more.

My 8 year old is proudly carrying around his latest trophy. He went to a “movie star” party at the weekend, dressed as Elvis. Worryingly, he looked decidedly similar to Elvis in his latter years….all he needs now is a white rhinestone suit and I’ll be able to hire him out for Elvis impersonator parties. Worryingly, his team also won the eating chocolate with a knife and fork competition. All the other teams only managed to cut and eat a few little squares, but with my son in the winning team, he managed to devour the whole lot within seconds. This is when I get frustrated and my careful dieting programme goes out of the window. That is another month of unwanted calories to work out of his body.

My daughter was also helping at the party. She was on face painting duty. She came back absolutely covered in glitter and apparently, due to an over-enthusiastic dollop of glitter on one poor girl, she was seen heading to the bathroom blinking, eyes streaming with ridiculously sparkly eyeballs. Another of the girls has gone to school today with one eyeball three times the size of the other. Not good.

My teenage son was working on his english essay last night. The one he had to do again after my attempts to help him. I’m still mortified. He took the piss out of me relentlessly. “Why don’t you help me write another story – maybe this time on “A Day In The Life Of A Worm” or a maybe A Day In The Life Of A Mole?” he said…..

Still, at least another friend of mine did equally badly with her son’s maths homework recently, getting all the answers wrong because she thought a triangle had 360 degrees in it.
