I am very proud of my 8 year old – he’s trying so hard to lose weight – it’s very difficult to know how best to approach the issue without giving him a total complex. He is beginning to say no when he gets offered food away from our home (so he tells me), but it must take monumental willpower at his age, (when you love food), to refuse a biscuit. I can’t do it aged 43 and three quarters so what chance has he got.
He got chosen by his manager to be “Man of The Match” in his football match last Sunday. He wrote “he never gave up, he saved great shots, took quite a knock and still played on. Some of the saves were outstanding and with more one to one coaching I think we have the makings of a great goal keeper. Well done”. Good for him. He doesn’t actually want to be the designated goal keeper and his older brother thinks it’s a terrible thing for him to have to do on a regular basis. They should really be rotating all the players at this age, but he’s weighed up the odds and decided that if he agrees to be goalie he stands much more chance of playing every week.
“He never gave up” – what more could you ask for? I suppose it is an admirable trait in one so young.

September 28, 2008You say you “gave up” that long list of things, but really, you just grew out of them. I mean – you’d be a bit strange (and knackered) if you were still doing even half of that list!
