Woohoo – Downing Street for a fabulous event in the garden!:-
We were there to listen to Destiny Africa made up of a group of Ugandan children from the Kampala Children’s Centre. They played a mixture of modern and traditional songs, drumming and dancing from the heart of Africa. The songs featured inspiring stories from children who have journeyed from despair and tragedy into the new life they’ve found at Kampala Children’s Centre – taken in when they were broken hearted from losing their parents and given love and hope. The centre was established in 2005 to give a home and a voice to vulnerable children in Uganda who have all been affected by poverty, disease and the legacy of war. KCC not only provides a loving family home but also excellent education, training, access to healthcare and support as the children grow and develop into adulthood.
Destiny Africa has become a voice for millions of suffering children in Africa. They present a powerful force that brings healing, joy and hope to many desperate situations. Through their music and art, they made a huge impression upon the audience, including Francis Osbourne and they continue to inspire through their uplifting songs of hope. They made me cry. It was a hugely moving and spirited presentation and they deserve to become world renowned.
I was invited as a family blogger by First News, the weekly children’s newspaper for young people (7-14) with over a million readers a week, who have supported the choir over a number of years now.
They sang a song with the lyrics “we believe we can make a difference from the darkness into the shining light. Hear the voice calling, to fight for Africa. If you believe that we can make it, come on and join us” taken from a song called “Our Call”, which was written by Alex, a former choir member and now a leader, having left to do a degree, he has come back as music director to the choir.
