Thank you to my lovely friends who bought me a beauty treatment voucher for my birthday. I have successfully managed to extend my birthday celebrations for an extra 7 months. On the hottest day of the year (I booked it when it was freezing last week) I have just had a “hot stone massage”.
I never get these massage moments quite right. In Bangkok I chose to have a body scrub at the end of my four day trip and it felt as if I’d been dashed against rocks or third degree burns and another time I had a gorgeous massage with the worst cold ever which meant that my nose dripped incessantly through the hole in the bed into a little bowl full of rose petals placed on the floor for decoration. Now I am boiling. The room itself was already hot and then I was basted with oil and heated up to roast chicken temperature.
What a strange experience. It was lovely actually. Very relaxing. The stones were bloody hot though. If I wasn’t expecting them I’d have leapt off the bed thinking I’d been scalded with an iron. The only problem was that the stones she laid on my arse kept sliding through the oil into my bottom crack regularly which was a little disconcerting – although worse I’m sure for the person who kept having to dig them out. Actually, I’ve probably still got some stuck in there.
Thinking about some of the friends who bought me that present, what a mixed day we are all having. One is about to fly to Hong Kong from Australia en route back to London, one is having tea with the Queen, one is about to get on a plane to Kenya, accompanying her husband on his half marathon alongside the migration of the wildebeest and one is in hospital having an operation.
I texted my friend who went into hospital this morning:-
“Thinking of you. Don’t worry. I’ll be fine”……that’s what I nearly sent her before noticing my error and changing it to “you’ll be fine”. I’m sure she will be although I’m waiting for her to text me and let me know everything is OK. HURRY UP if you read this before you let me know.
I texted my friend who’s off to Kenya:
“Have a fab time and don’t get eaten or trampled on”.
I love my friends. These are my “glow in the dark” friends. The ones who helped me immensely through my trauma.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
