“Do you actually LIKE what you are wearing today?” my 7 year old asked me this morning in that damning way that has made me feel slightly rubbish all day….

It’s bloody hot. I am completely unprepared. I am wearing jeans to hide hairy blue legs, Converse to hide very dodgy unprepared-for-public-scrutiny-in-every-way feet and in addition I appear to not have a clue what I should be wearing this summer, let alone actually possessing anything appropriate. How do people in the street look so completely comfortable in gorgeous summer clothing ALREADY? It’s only been summer for two days. It takes me months to appear with bare flesh. I emerge blinking and mole like, pale and wan, into the light bit by bit…a bit of dodgy fake tan here, a sparkly flip flop there. I am definitely a winter person. Mohair jumpers that merge beautifully with body hair is best.

I am in dire need of help. Must warn local beauty therapists to ship in additional quantities of wax immediately.

oh yes, i sympathise here. i have nothing but boots and jeans and suddenly am grotesquely hot and feeling like a baboon’s armpit. by the time i scour the wardrobe for last year’s summer clothes, the rain will have come back.

My dear girl, you have NOTHING to worry about on the hair front – I take the Olympic gold medal for this, I can assure you. My chin hairs are getting tangled in the keyboard as I type…
