I’m cold and wet. I’ve watched two games of football already today. But the really really good news is that they were the last games of the season and I have a brief window of calm before getting in to the cricket (which I really really really dislike for slightly childish personal reasons). Now I have to go and buy food. Lots of it. The children are complaining there is nothing to eat. I don’t like buying food – it goes in the same category as cleaning and going to the loo – it’s just got to be done. I don’t particularly like cooking either. Maybe I will start enlisting the skills of my 7 year old who is beginning to show all the signs of a Master Chef.
I had six kids staying the night last night. I am now a veteran of how to keep the sleepover simple. Go to video shop, get excess DVD’s and popcorn. Get a competent babysitter, go out and don’t come back until they’re all asleep.
My 7 year old cooked us all pancakes for breakfast this morning (see below). I was impressed. I think he felt a bit sorry for me and my rubbish food and therefore attempted to offer a few words of encouragement: “but mum, you’re really really good at making pineapple”.
“Thanks” I said, wondering if he knew that all you have to do to make pineapple is cut off the skin.
and here’s an omelette he made entirely on his own:

March 16, 2008I once caught a very nasty bug from a pineapple brought roadside in Vietnam… doing pineapple minus the bug bit is obviously no mean feat!
