Phew. I was worried there for a minute. After much excitement this morning at the sight of all the snow, there was a subsequent whoop of delight from two of my children as it was confirmed that their schools had been cancelled for the day owing to the snow. My 8 year old was having a MAJOR tantrum because his school had just confirmed that they would indeed be open.
Ten minutes later, because the catering staff were not able to get in, they closed his school as well. With all normal services suspended for the day we headed into the park early to catch the best of the snow. My daughter said “I just love snow. It’s just such priceless fun and how brilliant to be able to play in the snow all day instead of have to go to school”. I have to say, I’m quite pleased I don’t live in Siberia. I couldn’t cope with snow all the time. My house is covered in melting snow and discarded wet items, my son has a burnt tongue from the hot chocolate my friend brought for our snow adventure and a red eye from a well aimed but unreasonably hard snow ball thrown by his brother and blisters from his snow shoes. I have frost bite (and all three children at home).
The funniest sight was that all the long haired dogs looked as if they were wearing moon boots, owing to the large number of huge dangly snowballs stuck to their fur – I hope they’re not painful :-

February 2, 2009Sally goes to a primary school like that ‘ ‘we never close’ should be their motto. But she overcame her major grumpiness and had concluded by the end of the day that school in the snow was quite a fun place to be!

February 3, 2009It never snowed in the UK while I was living there, and now I live in Finland it has snowed more with you guys than with us! Although admittedly we have been sledging for the last two weekends (we were definitely the biggest kids on the slope!). Enjoy it before it turns brown and slushy 🙂
