I had a lovely time catching up with lots of my normally invisible blogging friends on Friday evening and managed to sit in on a few of the talks – Jaume Marin the lovely MD of Costa Brava Tourist Board was giving advice to bloggers and brands about how important it is to tell a story….
He went on to discuss how successful the recent parent blogger press trip had gone and how bloggers have a value that that a brand cannot have – 32% of people trust what the tourist board have to say whilst 72% believe in the opinion of mother’s online. He has been working with bloggers for a number of years now and finds that building a relationship and inviting them back has worked extremely well for him.
So his advice? He doesn’t want Wikipedia when he reads about a place, he wants to read an engaging personal experience. He suggests that if you have an idea then pursue it – they like new ideas – be professional though, make sure you have your media pack and always try new things. He says his view with his team is always give things a go, if you fail “fail quick and fail cheap”.
Niche is important as well as being relevant and visible.
“Engage or Die”.
and as he continues talking, suddenly there is an enormous image of my son on the stage! Hilarious.
