I attended the glittering BIB awards on Friday evening at Britmums Live. What an incredible array of winners there were – by the fourth winning category it became massively apparent that I was not going to win my category.

The first two winners were both writing blogs started in tragic circumstances – the death of a wife and the devastating accident of a husband so inevitably their acceptance speeches were very emotional all round. Then another man won an award for writing and said that if it hadn’t been for his children he wouldn’t be here and then my new friend Kirsty won the travel section and said that she was only a fifth of the team – that all her kids would be watching on Skype and were super-excited.

At that precise moment I got a call from one of my children, I thought to wish me huge luck
“mum, you know that avocado that’s wrapped up in clingfilm in the fridge that’s a bit manky? Can I eat it or will I get food poisoning?” and it was then that I realised there was no way in hell I was going to win a Lifestyle award.

Oh well, never mind, I had a lovely time catching up with everyone there and I was very lucky to have got into the list of finalists anyway and of course my journalist friend pointed out that she has never received an award in thirty years of writing….

So here is a list of the winning blogs – you should definitely go and check them out.
