I’ve got two books to giveaway but you’d better hurry up because my mother will definitely be entering the competition. I distinctly remember her raving about “The Hobbit” when I was a child and endlessly trying to get me to read it. Same with “Watership Down”. I suspect that was about the time that my personality trait as a complete realist emerged and I couldn’t quite comprehend why anyone would want to read a book about creatures with furry feet. I am now trying to read it to my youngest child at night, like you do – not sure though, think he might have the same realist genes as his mother…
That said, it is of course a timeless classic and one of the best-loved children’s book of all time, so as usual, I’ve got it wrong. Seldom has any book been so widely read and loved as J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic tale, ‘The Hobbit’. Since its first publication in 1937 it has remained in print to delight each new generation of readers all over the world, and its hero, Bilbo Baggins, has taken his place among the ranks of the immortals of fiction.
‘The Hobbit’, the unforgettable story of Bilbo, a peace-loving hobbit, who embarks on a strange and magical adventure is celebrating this year its 75th anniversary, and will be made into a major movie release on 14th December 2012.
The film release of the book is out in December and I’ve been offered the chance to give away two copies of the book in advance of the film so that your children can read the book before seeing the film.
About the book:
Bilbo Baggins enjoys a quiet and contented life, with no desire to travel far from the comforts of home; then one day the wizard Gandalf and a band of dwarves arrive unexpectedly and enlist his services – as a burglar – on a dangerous expedition to raid the treasure-hoard of Smaug the dragon. Bilbo’s life is never to be the same again…
OK, so how to enter:-
Let me know why you think I should send you the book in 140 characters – use the hashtag #thehobbit and then I can take a vote on the best one or maybe pull one out of a hat – not sure yet. It will run for a few weeks so lets just see what happens.
Oh and you will need to follow me on Twitter @FamilyAffairs so that I can retweet your entries.
