My body, which admittedly has never been a temple has now moved from being a pub to a toxic waste disposal. I feel horrendous. How much alcohol, good food, late nights, laughter, dancing, singing, more alcohol can a body take?

No wonder everybody looks forward to the New Year…..for a month of detoxifying clean living.

No wonder January is the most depressing month of the year.

Oh well. I’m having LOADS of fun though. Given how difficult divorced Christmas’s can be, this year was much easier. Builder Bloke and I had all the children on Christmas morning. We had a majorly stressful time (as predicted) when I hadn’t wrapped any of the 800 stocking presents for all six children and so at 2am my poor brother and I (and BB occasionally when we managed to wake him up) had to wrap them all in between my teenage son and friends chatting in the garden, my mother banging on the ceiling and popping downstairs to shout at us all intermittently and my teenage daughter horrified that we were even considering not wrapping them…..we organised a production line on the dining room table and then had to pretend we were the little wrapping elves every time a child appeared because they weren’t supposed to see their presents.

Having dropped all the children of with the ex’s at midday BB and I proceeded to have a grown up Christmas with his family. We played a drunken version of the Name Game which went a bit wrong. My mother was with my brother. My other brother was working. I think that this was the ideal scenario all round for us not to feel the very large gap my father left behind, this year. My kids enjoyed their Christmas with their father and new brothers and cousins and everybody seems to be OK with it all this year. V G.

Our Christmas? Nice and quiet, with good food and two Cuban elves as guests. (OK, only one looked like an elf)

    It was okay. Bearable.

Ask me around April and I will see if it improved with time.
