Today I taught a full class – three classes back to back in fact and then I had a mad rush up to town to attend the annual service of thanksgiving for the school my oldest child attends which he has been to 10 times and I have never been to until today. It was his last one. So I thought I ought to go.
Obviously the reverend directed his sermon to the children, but I felt it had some resonance to my life. He discussed education and how important it was and told the kids to be brave, to question things, to step out of the box and do the unexpected. He said there were questions in life they had to ask themselves – four in total:-
1. WHO AM I??
2. DOES WHAT I DO MATTER?
3. IS MY LIFE VALUABLE?
4. WHAT DO I REALLY WANT TO DO?
(What’s the difference between 2 and 3 I wonder?)
Does anybody know the answer to those questions? He said we all need to ask ourselves what we can do that maybe nobody else can and the only thing I could think of was that I can say:- “twoallbeefpattiesspecialsaucelettucecheesepicklesonionsonasesameseedbun” in under 5 seconds.
Oh to be a grown up.

October 8, 2010Geez, I became a typist because I didn’t know what I wanted to do. Now I’m a PA. Not because I want to be, but because I’m still trying to figure it out.
I don’t think I’ll ever truly be a grown up.
Or really want to be.

October 8, 2010I don’t think it matters if you don’t know the answers, maybe it is enought that you just ask yourself those questions occassionally.

October 9, 2010Funny, but I do ask myself these questions a lot. Which may or may not be a good sign.
In any case, still working on the answers.
