Confused? Uncertain? I certainly am. About how to vote as we reach the final round of election fever. The Conservative party are warning of the impending disaster of a coalition government. Should we try and be clever and tactical in order to avoid a hung parliament? Would it result in a weak parliament unable to make any decisions? Would it cause paralysis and deal brokering? How would the rest of the world view that result?
On the other hand I am wondering whether a hung parliament would actually be that bad? They are entirely common in most of Europe and coalition governments in Germany, Sweden and Norway for example don’t seem to be any worse off than we are in Britain under our decades of majority governments just because they have to make decisions involving a larger number of representatives. It doesn’t necessarily mean that decisions don’t get made.
Anyway, I’ve decided that trying to be clever and play games may well not work. So I think I’m going to stick to my original plan.
What’s your prediction for who will get the most number of seats? Based on the fact that I think people will resist a last minute decision to risk the tactical vote my guess is that the Conservatives will win.

May 5, 2010I’m going to go red I think, desperate that I am that those in tory seats vote yellow, so that in the end we get a hung parliament and not the absolute horrors the Tory’s will bring with them. Labour’s mistake was to not undo what the Tory’s did in the 80’s but the party gave lots for children, minimum wage, lots of things. The conservatives will change the course of this country but not for the better. Aaargh, i’m really scared!!

May 5, 2010I’m with you – even at this hour (10pm Wednesday) there are still loads, millions even, of people who have not made up their mind….but, come the hour, I believe people will vote against Brown – nobody with a conscience can vote for more of this corrupt administration – and especially Brown, who, along with Blair took us into this dreadful illegal war. I think The Conservatives will win with a working majority….and with The Liberal Democrats showing a very strong vote, which will pave the way for electoral reform.

May 6, 2010Oops! I forgot to say that a coalition would be a damn good thing if it can be sustained, and I hope that one result of the probable hung parliament would be the introduction of PR voting.
It may hasten the end of the political dogma we have endured all these years.
