Last night we had our book group meeting in the fabulous Putney Station (one of the Brinkley’s restaurants – very cool and accommodating they were too) and we were lucky enough to have the author of the book we were reading come along. It was fascinating to listen to her stories about her travels around India and when exactly she came up with the idea for putting the book together.
Lucy’s spiritual journey took her from London where she was working as an advertising executive to India where she had high hopes of becoming a Yoga Goddess. Her humorous travel book chronicles her experiences in search of spiritual riches and her discovery that there was rather more self-obsession and mumbo jumbo than she had anticipated.

It seems to me however,that she has indeed achieved her dream – last night she was accompanied by about four other gorgeous Yogini’s in addition to our regular team. I note that regular team (excluding gorgeous Yogini herself in the group who organised the whole thing) managed to drink ALL the wine, get pissed and loud and stagger home mumbling to each other. In contrast the Yoga Goddess’s floated off – full of mostly water. Oh dear.
She is now on her third book.

February 2, 2011Was such a great night and fascinating to discover that Lucy is as self deprecating, honest and witty in person as she is in the book. Anyone who is into yoga should definitely get a copy and anybody who isn’t, but enjoys a good yarn, will also enjoy it, though it might take a little longer to get to grips with some of the jargon!

February 6, 2011I enjoyed the book both as an intro to yoga and a piece of travel writing and it was an added bonus to meet Lucy in person too, so thanks for coming to meet us. In fact we seem to have set a precedent for inviting published authors to our book group – three to date and the possibility of two more in the future (over to you LC!). I am secretly hoping that Ewan Mcgregor will write his autobiography soon and then, well who knows……..
